Only a small part of a very large world:

I’ve picked up  Tolkien again- I am rereading  The Hobbit  and plan on continuing on with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I had read most of the first of that trilogy when I was younger, but I grasped so little). Standing at his section of literature in Barnes and Noble’s, I realized there was far more than just those four books - I knew his son had published some of his further writing posthumously, but I never thought that there was more than one book.

Instead, after googling a bit, I found the order one should read all his books, of which there are many. They recommended the Hobbit and LOTR first because of the complete though they presented, but he wrote several histories, including what seems like a timeline starting with a creation myth he designed.

I grew up loving Peter Jackson’s films and reading the Hobbit, but I have so much more respect for Tolkien now that I know this (and, I think, am older enough to appreciate it more)
